Day 27: Warm Again

Thursday July 15

Carnero Pass to Del Norte, CO

34 miles, 1139 ft climbed, 1772.3 cumulative miles

Our shoes were soaked again. They dried out during the night, but once we walked through the tall grass in the meadow in search of the creek to filter water for the next few hours of riding, we had puddles in them again. The morning dew draped over the tall grass in the meadow was beautiful but very wet.

We peeled our layers as the sun warmed us on the gradual descent towards Del Norte. The sun felt sooo good after the cold night at Storm King Campground. We were there with two other cyclists, each on their own program, partially riding the Divide.

Today’s landscape made it clear that we are in southern Colorado and closing in on New Mexico.

We looped around the airport just outside of town and enjoyed the ‘GDMBR this way’ signs. We arrived in Del Norte in time for lunch and went straight to a brewery.

The afternoon was spent mostly drying out, cleaning our bikes and getting the dirt out.
